Common scams

Fake payment alerts

A buyer sends an SMS that looks like a bank credit, or an edited receipt, then pushes you to release.

Protection: confirm the credit in your banking app. Escrow keeps your XLM safe while you check.

"Release first, I'll pay after"

No legitimate buyer needs this. Escrow exists precisely so nobody has to go first on trust.

"Cancel and I'll send it directly"

The buyer asks you to cancel the trade and trade off-platform. You lose escrow protection completely.

Third-party payments

Money arrives from someone other than the buyer — often stolen funds. The real account owner may later reverse the transfer or report you.

Protection: check the sender name matches the buyer's verified name.

Overpayment refunds

The "buyer" sends more than agreed and asks you to refund the extra. The original payment is later reversed.

Fake support

Someone claiming to be Nexlm support messages you asking for your password, OTP or to "verify" your wallet.

Protection: Nexlm never asks for these.

What to do

  • Don't release.
  • Don't cancel on the other party's instruction.
  • Keep chatting in the trade room so there's a record.
  • Contact support with your trade ID.

Nexlm is a peer-to-peer facilitator and never holds customer Naira.
